Route planing

Updated on 17, September 2019 Route planing Route planning is the process of determining the most cost-efficient route. It's more complex than simply finding the shortest path between two points. It needs to include all relevant factors such as the number and location of all the required stops on the route.

Waybill calculates the best route when visiting multiple locations and then returning back to the start. It is ideal for delivery drivers, salespeople on the road, or anyone who needs to make multiple stops.  Waybill re-orders the locations you enter into the best optimal order, so that every location is visited once before returning to your start location in the shortest and quickest way possible, and also provides full driving directions between all stops.

Single or Multiple Delivery Vehicles

Waybill can plan your route for a single vehicle or multiple delivery vehicles and will produce the optimal route for the number of delivery vehicles you have available. If you set the number of available delivery vehicles to be more than one, the calculated route may use any number of vehicles up the maximum available. The calculated route might not use all the vehicles available if the optimal route can be achieved using fewer vehicles.

Timeboxed Locations

Waybill supports timeboxing of locations on your route by you specifying time constraints such as arriving at a location only before or after a certain time (or both), and optional wait periods at locations.  Waybill will make a 'best-effort' attempt to incorporate any location timeboxing constraints into the calculated route. The maximum percentage of locations in a route than can be timeboxed is 25%, i.e. no more than a quarter of your route locations can be timeboxed.

Drag & Drop Location Re-Ordering

After a route has been calculated, it may be subsequently 'fine-tuned' to your specific needs by dragging and dropping the locations to manually re-order them as appropriate. The route's driving directions, distance and duration will then be automatically updated to reflect the new route order. (Currently only available for single vehicle delivery non-timeboxed routes).
